Sabor Vivo is a functional design project inspired by the traditions of Mexican pickling, specifically jalapeños en escabeche. It reframes a familiar kitchen ritual as an act of cultural preservation and everyday creativity.

Made from recycled glass, volcanic rock, and black cherry wood, the piece blends sustainable materials with simple, intuitive function. Its forms highlight the sensory moments of pickling—the grip of the fork, the weight of the grinder, the quiet seal of the jar.

Both practical and symbolic, Sabor Vivo celebrates the memories, roots, and small rituals that shape nourishment and home.

Hongo is a sculptural brass ring with a lifted onyx stone perched on a slim brass tube, echoing the shape of a small mushroom. Its asymmetrical elliptical opening creates an organic fit, while the side profile hints at a playful, face-like expression. Simple, bold, and a little whimsical, Hongo sits between jewelry and miniature sculpture.

My abuelo once said the sea reflects human life—how we drift with its currents, collecting new experiences while letting others slip away. Loss takes many forms, and grief is cumulative; we never feel it in isolation, but as the sum of everything we’ve carried.

The Ghost Net draws from this idea. Like a net drifting at sea, it gathers what’s been forgotten or left behind. Memories, emotions, and experiences collect within it, captured like bottles tangled in its mesh. What remains is a quiet archive of everything that once held weight, held close, and eventually set adrift

Serveware Concept: This sculptural serveware piece reframes the simple act of serving as a moment of connection and quiet reflection. Developed through Rowena Reed’s visual design methodology, it explores how form and function can carry emotional weight.

Influenced by the organic geometries of Johnny Mattsson and the expressive forms of Wendell Castle, the design invites touch and visual curiosity, turning utility into a small act of storytelling through shape, rhythm, and space.
